In aerospace and aviation, managers and engineers need to understand airworthiness and the property of an air vehicle or aircraft system configuration to safely attain, sustain, and terminate flight per approved usage limits. This course imparts concepts of both initial airworthiness certification—verifying that the design and production of a specific air vehicle system conform to its described flight envelope—and continuing airworthiness—ensuring that, at any time in its operating life, the aircraft complies with the airworthiness requirements in force and is in condition for safe operation.

Program Experience
The Department of Defense establishes airworthiness certification criteria for all military air vehicle systems, whether crewed or uncrewed, fixed or rotary wing, in MIL-HDBK-516 and similar standards, exist for commercial systems. In this course you will understand the concepts in these standards for defining and ensuring the basis for your systems’ airworthiness certification.
Tailor this program for product scope, operating theaters, applicable regulators, and location. Skill up a team that needs to understand how components must perform or focus on building organizational capabilities for full-size aircraft and systems.
Benefits
Upon completion, participants will:
Understand the entry points for determining which airworthiness processes and standards apply to specific aviation product(s) of interest
Recognize which airworthiness authorities administrative civil and public aircraft
Recognize common terminology and acronyms used in airworthiness processes and standards
Become familiar with the role of the systems engineering processes required to manage airworthiness
Understand how to locate airworthiness resources
Become familiar with airworthiness certification criteria, standards, and methods of compliance
Understand the role sustainment plays in continuing airworthiness
