Global Supply Chain Certificate

Supply chain management has evolved substantially over the last twenty years. Once thought of as "materials management," the field of supply chain management has evolved into a comprehensive discipline that encompasses several previously non-integrated disciplines, many of which were organizationally dispersed in previous years.

Approach

This eight-course, eleven-day certificate program provides manufacturing and distribution industry professionals with the necessary knowledge to compete in today’s global supply chain environment. Participants gain new insights and skills through lectures and a series of threaded exercises done in both individual and group sessions. Participants must complete the following courses.

Topics

Supply Chain Design Overview

This one-day course presents an overview of the supply chain function within the context of a complex manufacturing environment. Concepts and techniques for evaluating the effectiveness of supply chains are presented with case study analysis to reinforce learning. Participants will acquire a broad understanding of supply chain considerations to use when designing methods to satisfy customer, product and systems requirements.

Master Planning / Sales and Operations Planning

This two-day course presents an overview of techniques for managing and executing the procurement function. Participants will understand what procurement does and how it fits into a global supply chain management environment. Participants will also learn about global sourcing issues and trade agreement considerations.

Production Planning, Scheduling and Control

This two-day course presents an overview of techniques for planning both simple and complex production environments. Numerous detailed scheduling techniques for balancing material requirements and capacity requirements are discussed. Participants will acquire a broad understanding of how a manufacturing enterprise can be scheduled and better controlled.

Raw Material Planning and Procurement Process Design and Management

This two-day course presents an overview of techniques for managing and executing the procurement function. Participants will understand what procurement does and how it fits into a global supply chain management environment. Participants will also learn about global sourcing issues and trade agreement considerations.

Inventory Management Requirements and Execution

This one-day course presents an overview of physical inventory management methods, techniques and systems. Participants will understand the use of inventory and how inventory, as an asset, can be abused if not managed properly. Participants will also develop a basic understanding of how to manage inventory levels within the context of operational risks.

Logistics Process Design and Management

This one-day course presents a summary of material handling and logistics considerations within the global supply chain discipline. Participants will understand how excellent logistics management can speed time to customers and significantly reduce total delivered costs. Participants will also learn techniques for eliminating unnecessary transportation and product handling costs.

LEAN Supply Chain Design

This one-day course presents a number of new advances in global supply chain management. Using LEAN techniques originally developed in factories, this course demonstrates how waste can be systematically eliminated from most supply chain functions. Participants will be challenged to break previous and existing supply chain paradigms in order to discover cost reduction and supply chain performance improvement solutions.

Global Supply Chain Management Team Project Reviews

During this final one-day course the participants work in groups to solve a particularly difficult supply chain problem. The problem will be jointly selected by management and the instructor midway through this Global Supply Chain Management Certificate Program. The selected problem will be relevant to the company and to the participants. Participants will work in teams over a period of weeks to solve the assigned problem. Solutions will be submitted to the instructor in advance of the Global Supply Chain Project Reviews. Teams will prepare a Global Supply Chain Solution Briefing that will be presented to the class.
