This two-day course provides you with the skills you need to identify a variety of risks, quantify potential impacts and likelihoods, and establish a program for risk mitigation and monitoring. Take this course as a stand-alone to get actionable insights into dealing with uncertainties through analytical methods. You can also complete this course as a module in the Caltech Project Management Certificate Program.

Risk and Opportunity Management

• Identifying what can go wrong on a project during each of its phases
• Determining which risks are important and warrant mitigation
• Establishing cost trades among different mitigation candidates
• Identifying and avoiding duplicated mitigation
• Preparing  an effective risk statement
• Generating strategies to deal with critical risks
• Determining the expected value of a mitigation strategy
• Determining the size of the contingency reserve for the project
• Making decisions under uncertainty and risk

Caltech is a Premier Authorized Training Partner with the Project Management Institute (PMI®). This course provides 16 PDUs towards the Project Management Professional (PMP®) and similar certificates, either for the initial application or sustainment.

Schedule

Classes are held Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, either on the Caltech campus in Pasadena, California or via Zoom, depending on the offering (see below).

Fee: $1190 for the 2 day course. Payment is due (or credit card charged) on the Friday prior to first day of the course. After June 3, 2023, the fee will be $1050 for the 2 day course.

Hours and Credits: Participants will earn 16 Professional Development Units (PDUs) or 1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The PDUs may be applied by PMI Project Management Professionals (PMP)^® towards their maintenance of certification under the PMI Continuing Certification Requirements Program.
