
Mr. Bayer is an internationally recognized space systems engineering expert, with over 40 years’ experience spanning NASA, DOD, and European space system applications. He recently retired from JPL as a Principal Systems Engineer. His most recent role was as Chief Engineer of JPL’s Flight Systems Engineering Section. He served as the lead systems engineer for the Europa Clipper and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft and held lead systems roles on other missions including Cassini, Mars Observer, and EUMETSAT’s Meteosat Second Generation (a European weather satellite). Mr. Bayer holds the Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP) certification from the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and is the recipient of two NASA Exceptional Achievement Medals as well as the NASA Systems Engineering Excellence award.
