Matt Brems is a data scientist and award-winning educator. Brems leads the non-profit Statistics Without Borders, an organization that executes pro bono projects in statistics and data science for NGOs and not-for-profits around the world. Under his leadership as Chair, Statistics Without Borders has worked on nearly 120 projects in dozens of countries. At General Assembly, Brems has trained over 1,000 students in data science and Python since 2016, earning General Assembly's inaugural "Distinguished Faculty Member of the Year" award. Brems supports Cornell University's AI Program as Senior Manager of Instruction, focused on their ML Foundations course. He mentors early-career technologists with the Coding It Forward Fellowship — earning their top mentoring award in 2022 — and the Washington Statistical Society. Brems has previously driven value with data in computer vision, finance, software, education, consumer-packaged goods, politics, and more.

His expertise includes:

Matt earned his Master's degree in statistics from The Ohio State University. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Franklin College with majors in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, quantitative analysis, and economics.
