Michael Frantz, PhD is a tenured data scientist and machine learning engineer with experience in education technology and healthcare industries. Currently, he is the Lead Machine Learning Engineer at meMR Health, where he designs and builds scalable systems to provide medical record retrieval, analysis, and patient clinical trial matching using a combination of LLM and more traditional ML applications. Previously at the education technology company GoGuardian, he founded the data science science team and led initiatives focused on NLP for suicide prevention, AI tutoring, and classroom filtering recommendations, as well as strategic business intelligence efforts. Michael has also served as a Global Instructor of Data Science at General Assembly, teaching Python, SQL, data analysis/visualization, and machine learning/deep learning to a diverse audience.
He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Southern California, where he researched the interplay between genes that regulate neural plasticity and experience in multiple models of recovery. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from UC Santa Barbara. Outside of his professional endeavors, Michael loves spending time with his kids, surfing, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
