Doug Rosenberg
Systems Engineering, Model-Based Engineering, Software Engineering, and Agile Development
Doug Rosenberg is the founder and CEO of Parallel Agile, Inc., and a pioneering thought leader in software and systems engineering and object-oriented design for over three decades. He has authored nine books, including his latest, AI Assisted MBSE (AIM), which encapsulates his forward-thinking approach to model-based systems engineering. Rosenberg’s journey in the field began with his founding and leadership of ICONIX Software Engineering, which he managed from 1984 to 2014, setting a foundation for his influential contributions to engineering practices.
In the early 1990s, Rosenberg played a pivotal role in integrating the modeling methods of Grady Booch, James Rumbaugh, and Ivar Jacobson—years ahead of the formalization of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). This groundbreaking work led to the development of the ICONIX Process, a streamlined, practical approach to modeling and design that remains influential.
For the past decade, Rosenberg has focused on bridging the gap between systems and software engineering, recognizing that nearly every modern system includes software components, yet many traditional systems engineering methodologies overlook this integration. His ninth book, AI-Assisted MBSE (AIM), represents a significant advancement toward achieving this alignment, combining cutting-edge AI capabilities with model-based systems engineering to address this essential convergence.
Rosenberg’s experience and influence extend across some of the most critical projects and organizations in aerospace, defense, and scientific research. His training and consulting clients include the International Space Station program, the Hubble Space Telescope, the F-35 fighter program, and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system. He has also contributed to major initiatives such as the Large Binocular Telescope and the Rubin Observatory (formerly the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope). His expertise has benefited hundreds of systems engineers and teams at Boeing, Blue Origin, Northrop Grumman, L3 Harris, and other clients across various industries.
