Model-Based Systems Engineering Fundamentals Using SysML v2

MBSE Fundamentals in SysML v2: New Ontologies, Nomenclature, and Methods

Develop practical skills for building and evaluating Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using the SysML v2 standard. This hands-on course guides participants from capturing stakeholder needs through system architecture, behavior, structure, and evaluation using practical, real-world examples.

If you are new to modeling, there has never been a better time to start. SysML v2 is built on a modern logical foundation called Kernel Modeling (KerML), designed to address the complexity of today’s aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, electronics, and medical systems. This course provides a clear, structured entry point into MBSE using the newest generation of systems modeling standards.

Program Experience

This course provides a hands-on learning environment where participants work directly in Cameo Systems Modeler using the latest SysML v2 plugins to build and evaluate digital engineering models. Instruction emphasizes practical application, with guided exercises that introduce core MBSE concepts alongside SysML v2 constructs and workflows.

Participants learn by doing—progressing from foundational modeling concepts to executable system models that connect requirements, behavior, structure, and analysis. The course is designed to build confidence and competence for engineers who are new to MBSE, as well as those transitioning to SysML v2 for the first time.

Educational licenses for Cameo Systems Modeler may be provided for instructional use when participants are unable to use licensed environments from their organization.

Benefits

Participants will learn how to:

  • Use SysML v2 graphical and textual notation to create and manage system models

  • Understand MBSE fundamentals using the SysML v2 language and KerML foundation

  • Organize models using package definitions and reusable structures

  • Connect requirements directly to system structure and behavior to reduce errors and ambiguity

  • Model system behavior using action-based execution semantics

  • Define system structure using part and port definitions

  • Apply parametrics and attributes to support analysis and system evaluation

  • Leverage SysML v2 textual notation, standardized APIs, and version control to support automation and interoperability

  • Build foundational knowledge aligned with OCSMP SysML v2 certification at Levels 1 and 2
