Build Complex, Connected Systems with Confidence
Our Systems Engineering Perspectives and Programs
Develop rigorous systems engineering capability with the Caltech Center for Technology and Management Education (Caltech CTME). Systems engineering is the discipline of designing, integrating, and managing complex systems across their full life cycle—and for decades Caltech CTME has taught it as exactly that: a complete engineering discipline rooted in systems thinking, shaped by real aerospace, defense, and complex-product programs and taught by practicing engineers from industry, Caltech, and JPL. Our programs move from the fundamentals of requirements, architecture, and verification through the management and operating-model decisions that determine whether systems engineering actually takes hold in an organization.
Within this discipline, model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is our most widely taken track—its momentum building with the new SysML v2 and UAF standards. As a Dassault Systèmes education partner, we teach it with the industry-standard tools engineers use in practice. Explore our Model-Based Systems Engineering courses.
Across our public certificate courses and customized corporate programs, participants and teams learn to:
-
Apply systems thinking as the foundation—reason about complex, interconnected systems such as vehicles, infrastructure, transport, agriculture, and connected products as wholes, not parts (ideal for engineering discipline specialists to understand how they fit in a larger systm of systems)
-
Master the systems engineering process—requirements, architecture, integration, and verification across the full life cycle
-
Design security in from the start—secure-by-design systems architecture for high-assurance and defense environments
-
Lead engineering teams and programs—stakeholder alignment, design decisions, communication, and the operating models that make systems engineering work at scale
-
Earn recognized credentials—INCOSE CSEP/ASEP certification, earned within our certificate programs, such as Systems Engineering Fundamentals. Transitioning Models to SysML v2 with MBSE
The transition from SysML v1 to SysML v2 represents a fundamental shift in the landscape of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE). Unlike previous incremental updates, SysML v2 is built on a new logical foundation—the Kernel Modeling (KerML)—and introduces a standardized API and a powerful textual notation. This three-day program is designed to bridge the gap for current SysML v1 practitioners, providing the technical knowledge and hands-on practical skills required to migrate existing SysML V1 models and adopt the new SysML V2 standard using Cameo Systems Modeler.
